Hello Yorkville! Another great new biz that was surely needed along 1st Avenue up near where I live in NYC and a great addition to the hood. Shorty’s Cheesesteaks brings the mouth watering comfort food staple of Philly right up here to NYC. No need to head 3-4 hours down the Jersey turnpike to get a bite of one now since it’s right up here in my backyard. This could be a blessing and a curse! Deez damn cheesesteaks are just so dang delectable!

The selection of crafty brews here makes it so easy to wash down a great cheesesteak sandwich. Actually, 24 in total served nice and cold. Last time I was here I tried out a flight of beers in the above picture which was a terrific choice. Loved my first taste of a sandwich at Shorty’s. A big key is the exceptional bread they serve it on – light, soft, and a bit crispy at the same time. The juicy meat and gooey cheese is packed inside and tastes oh-so-gut-busting-belt-loosening gloriously orgasmic! I could really eat two in one sitting. Don’t judge! Hey, this ain’t no Weight Watchers meal here! Dig in and don’t count calories!

Plenty on the menu for everyone – including some vegan friendly options, salads, sliders, etc. Delivery until midnight every day. Weekend brunch too. This place has become another one where it will test my resolve to eat healthy and stay in shape. I mean, having a warm filling cheesesteak sandwich on a cold winter day sounds pretty perfect to me. All day, every day.

Also, Lawd Jeebus people please stop drinking crappy Bud Light when you can down a Troegs Mad Elf, Shipyard GingerBreadHead Ale, or Weyerbacher Last Chance IPA on tap here. I find it so sad when I see people drinking bad beer in a place like this. I mean, why ruin such a scrumptious cheesesteak with a pint of mediocre beer?

So so sad.

  1. I love Philly Cheese Steaks and haven’t had a good one since I left the East Coast.

I can’t believe you just said you could eat two. That thing looks big enough for 4 people!
That beer must be giving you the munchies!

    1. Hey Karen!

Oh yes, I am a gluttonous monster when it comes to this stuff. Between the beer and cheesesteaks here I have to drag myself away from it!

  2. I would go with the classic Cheesesteak but I didn’t see an option for mushrooms. Hmmm. Next visit I would want to try that Honey Chipotle Chicken Steak! I will sit over in the corner and drink my (three) Bud Light. Then get ready for the next three 🙂 Good eats, Phil 🙂

    1. Hey Mike!

I also need to try out a few more different sandwiches here, but that damn cheesesteak is so dang good!

Now, put down the Bud Light and back away slowly. No one will get hurt.

  3. I opened that spot with the original side partners/owners and it wasn’t always Shorty’s.. it was Tony Luke’s.. KING’S of the Philly Cheese Steak in the heart of PHILLY !!!

  4. Philly cheese steaks are ALWAYS a good idea! I love them but they are my hubby’s favorite sandwich hands down. I’m still not a beer fan but I would go for the food!

  5. I can do without the sports on flat screens, but the beer looks really good. I have a thing for IPA, but the selection down here is much more limited than what you have in NYC. What was that Gingerbread Ale like?

    1. Hey Mitzie!

That GingerBread Ale was terrific! It really surprised me! Yeah, in NYC we have a huge variety of beers here now. It’s so spoiling!

  6. Hi Phil, I’m inclined to give that Philly cheese steak a thumbs up just based on the look of the roll, though the meat looks good too. Seems a terrific place- a real nice selection on the beers too! Hope you are enjoying your holiday season!

  7. omg – I love a good cheesesteak. That looks amazing, as does the row of fine brews you got there. I like to go to this place in Princeton called Triumph Brewery where they have really great micro brews and a sampler much like the one pictured above. They’ve got a coffee stout and a rye ale that are out of this world.

    1. Hey Linda!

Love me some coffee stout! Yeah, this place is now a few blocks behind me and is so tempting. Great cheesesteak and craft beers. Flat screens. Heaven!

  8. Oh but Miller Lite goes down like water! Bubbly, hoppy water. This looks like another great place. That Philly cheesesteak looks like the REAL deal, with REAL Cheez-Whiz, which is how they do in Philly. Real cheese is for sissies!
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all that jazz!

    1. Hey Joy!

Because it is water! Yellow water!

Gotta do it wit the cheese whiz! So close to my place and they make a damn good cheese steak! No travel to Philly for me now. Merry Christmas Joy!

  9. Why oh why did I click on this link, now I’ve got a hankering for a Philly cheesesteak. Lucky for me, I live in Philly. Tony Luke’s, here I come! 🙂

  10. I’d love to give these a taste some day. Being my whole family is originally from Philly, I’m a little biased when it comes to cheesesteaks! I’m with you on the bad beer. Never understood when you are at a place that serves awesome beer and somebody says “I’ll take a Bud.”

Get a beer, dude! Not some water with a little barley and hops!

    1. Hey PJ!

A good cheesesteak demands a good beer! I have been to Philly and had my first cheesesteaks there. Then did the mummers parade. So good.
