There are many spots in NYC that can be described as a guilty pleasure. I have made it a mission to experience as many as I can. My taste buds love it, while my waist line, liver, and arteries hate me. Being a foodie one can describe NYC as living in gastronomical orgasmic bliss. This is my taste adventure at Clinton St. Baking Company not too long ago.
The pancake and sugar cured bacon orgy is beyond gluttonous belief!
It makes life worth living. It makes rainbows in the sky. It’s better than puppies and kittens. I want to bath in it. I want to make love to it. I actually shed a tear when I finished eating it.
So much has been written and reviewed about Clinton St. Baking Company, and much of the praise is highly deserved, along with the lambasting of the dreaded long lines and eternal wait to finally get a seat in this place. I thought I would be smart and go here on Wednesday late afternoon on my vacation during Christmas week. Alas, the line gods were kind to us and we only had to wait about 30 minutes before scoring a table around 3PM. The waiter handed us a menu, but I laughed and scoffed at this feeble attempt to persuade me to veer off my mission of the one thing that is a must-order when visiting this establishment for the first time –
Blueberry Pancakes and Sugar Cured Bacon!
Now, I have had many pancakes over my lifetime across many different states, and I must say these are made by the hands of angels with baby’s tears. When I saw this plate placed in front of me I took a deep breath and heard mermaids singing. Three thick gorgeous looking pancakes with a tremendous amount of blueberries sitting on top in the middle, and a light dusting of powdered sugar sprinkled over it. Can it get better? Yes, it can! These pancakes of Heaven are accompanied by their own house Warm Maple Butter syrup. Just a terrific taste sensation as a bite of pancake melts on your tongue mixed with warm blueberry and maple butter syrup. It’s so cozy and warm feeling you wish you were eating this in a cabin in front of a roaring fireplace.

Oh, oh, oh, that bacon. A side order of sugar cured bacon will make all your problems go away. With each sugary sweet bite I envisioned fairies fluttering by and leprechauns bouncing around with pots of gold. Prepared just the right way with a coating of liquid sugar shimmering over each piece and cooked to a nice crispiness. How can anyone not like bacon I don’t know. This is amazing.
(Also, this song comes to mind whenever I think about this place) –

Since we were on vacation we had to also order some brunch drinks – Clinton St. Bloody Mary’s. Served in tall glasses with a spicy house bloody mary mix, celery stalk, and a good amount of vodka. A perfect libation to help wash down this meal of joy. Overall, this feast is worth every penny, along with the ridiculous wait at times if one is up for it.
Oh, and kids, make sure to order your own bacon. I will cut your hand off if you try to snag a piece of mine. Really, I will stab you.

Now pancakes I can do, although maybe it’ll put to waste all that healthy eating I’ve done recently.
I just can’t get my head around your concept of sugar cured bacon! Why do you have to put sugar on it? Another thing, as Brit I much prefer our style of bacon. We never quite took to US bacon. If you have chance to try British bacon you’ll understand what I mean.
Now, back to those lovely pancakes:
Where do the one legged waiters work? IHOP.
Hey Guy!
My healthy eating takes a beating living here!
Sugar cured bacon is not for everyone. I do prefer mine nice and crispy, but this was a treat.
LOL at the IHOP joke! 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting!
I just love pancakes! It is the one thing I craved when I was pregnant. This all looks so yummy! With or without the bacon.
Hi Lanthie!
I am a pancake fanatic. I make chocolate chip pancakes on the weekend. Or rolled pancakes with blueberry compote and whipped cream on top.
Also, yes, this place is terrific!
You sure know how to tempt people! Thanks for making my mouth water. Again.
Hi GK!
Yeah, I can be a devil! Plenty more to come on this blog. Try to control the drooling!
Candied bacon is da Bomb!!! I made it for a party and my fiancee was like, Uh.. do we have to do that (a health nut), but then everyone was bonkers and it was the buzz of the party! LOL!
I hate you for making me hungry right now….
Hey Gail!
It is so good isn’t it! Sweet and smokey and crispy bacony goodness!
My diet gets destroyed when I go to these places. I am like your guy. Normally try to stay healthy but that little food devil sits on my shoulder and temps me. We had a friend make it for a pot luck and we swiped the tupperware it was in and ate it all!
Thanks for reading and commenting. Hope you satisfied your hunger!
Not “my guy” darling, my finacee is of the female gender. Yep, I’m one of thooose 🙂
btw- a little coincidence today- a friend, who attended the afore mentioned party, text me today for the candy bacon recipe.
See what you put out there and got going??
Oh, my bad. That is very cool. 🙂
See – so many of us are bacon lovers! I sense a bacon party coming up soon!
Damn you! I’m eating frozen turkey tetrazzini for lunch.
Hi Lauren!
I aim to please. Oh, the sweet rapture of food porn! 🙂
OK, seriously… yum! I try and visit NYC a few times a year and I think on one of my next trips I must check this place out. This looks — and sounds — divine!
Hey PJ!
Thanks for dropping by my blog!
This is a terrific place to eat but the best bet is to go for an early dinner time meal. Brunch on weekends is crazy crowded with long waits. Mid-week at dinner time is good, plus you can order breakfast for dinner too!
Please sign up for email to get all my updates. I appreciate the comment!
O-M-freakin G! That looks delish! Seriously, it looks blissful and I must find this Clinton St. Once again, Thank you!
xoxo
Carica
Hey Carica!
Hahaha! OMG is right! If ever in the area check it out. Don’t even take a menu. Just order this. Don’t pass go. Don’t collect $200. Food coma.
Bacon, the food of the gods!! UP
Hello UP!
I will never give UP a piece of bacon!
Everything is always better with bacon 🙂 Yum to the pancakes and bacon, now I’m hungry!
Hi Frugal!
I knew you would approve! Crispy bacon = sex! 😉
Bacon rocks and pancakes should never be eaten alone without it!
Hey Holli!
Bacon and pancakes are God’s gift to breakfast. There is never leftover bacon! 🙂
Yum! OMG, I am sold by those blueberries. You really have an eye for these food places. Call the Food Network, yo!
But… sugar-cured bacon? Sounds a little weird to me. As long as it doesn’t have a heavy smokey flavor it’s probably good, but that’s what I keep thinking about. Sugar+Smoke=odd. Bloody Mary looks amazing!
Hey Jean!
YUM is the word! The pancakes here rock. Yeah, not everyone likes sweet bacon like that, and the beetus will kick in!
It’s always a good time for bloody marys! 🙂
I love bacon, pancakes and blueberries, but have never eaten them together – I have going to have to now, looks amazing!
Have a lovely day.
Kate x
Hey Kate!
Oh, you must eat them together! I love blueberry in anything! I also love bacon. I love that there are so many diners here in NYC to get them. Nothing like a good diner. I am at one right now and they have free wifi! Crap, now I want pancakes and bacon. Again.
GIVE ME PANCAKES!! They look so plump and I love when places are generous with the fruit!
Hey Holly!
This place makes awesome pancakes. Totally not diet friendly but worth the wait to get in!
THIS IS MAKING ME HUNGRY!!!!
Bacon pancakes~ Bacon pancakes~
Hey Kisty!
Thanks for dropping by my blog!
Yeah, it’s making me hungry too! Hope you can follow my blog by email and such. I’ll do the same. My fiancee’ will like your blog!
Clinton Street Baking Co makes the best pancakes! Period. I always arrive a few minutes after dinner service begins and never have to wait. Its around 6pm that it starts to get stupid in there. Its soo small. I cant justify dining in those conditions. unless the meal was free…
And bacon. I am picky about my bacon. This bacon is boss. IHOP bacon is ass.
Hey Monique!
That place is dangerous! You’re right about dinner time. We did it with a Groupon and had little wait. Awesome deal. I rolled out of there like a fat ass! On the weekend it is a nightmare.
That bacon is the bomb. IHOP? Oh hell no!
That Adventure Time song is amazing.
I know right? I can’t get it out of my head! Making bacon pancaaaaaaakes!
Who doesn’t love bacon?! Although I always have the debate with myself at brunch: bacon or sausage? If the bacon is floppy I do not enjoy it!
Hey Rachel!
Bacon over sausage! Always bacon! Also, it must be crispy or the chef will catch a beating! No one likes their meat floppy! Heeey-oooo! 🙂
They look like HEAVEN!! Give me bacon, bacon, and more bacon! YUM!
Hello Tree!
Thanks for dropping by my blog! 🙂
Yes, bacon is meat candy! This place makes a great breakfast. Thanks for following my blog!
Hah ha.. I like that, meat candy. Definitely is.
The best way to describe it! Have a great Sunday!
Thanks.. and you as well!
You might decide to no longer be my bloggy pal after I say this but here goes…. I don’t like bacon. In fact I don’t like pork and don’t really eat a lot of meat.
If you’re still reading this and haven’t completely choked on your bloody mary you should know that I absolutely love the idea of those pancakes!
Hey Emily!
LOL – as long as you like pancakes we are good! Have a great Sunday!
The perfect Breakfast! Here in Iowa, we have bacon bloody marys. Add that to the breakfast and you can’t go wrong (And you will probably have a heart attack in 10 to 15 years, but it will be worth it!
Hi Matt!
It is pretty amazing. All good. I need to start dieting to hold off that heart attack!
