In the foodie world there are so many choices to dine at with multiple restaurants everywhere serving up all types of fare. With the devastation that Hurricane Sandy has caused in the New York area perhaps this is a good a time as any to dine out for a few days, but instead of hitting up the bigger joints why not try out some of the smaller mom and pop establishments and support local biz?

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy we have all seen so much destruction and human suffering. Everyone we know has some family and friends all affected by this storm in one way or another. Power outages, homes burnt to the ground, mass flooding, deaths, and more. It is just unreal, and something none of us really expected.
Watching all the reports on tv all week made me reflect a bit. It’s easy for all the politicians to give their speeches, and most have been doing a great job throughout this. Well, that one surely caught us all off guard here in the Northeast. I mean, we did have all the advance warnings and weather reports. Yet, as I wrote in my recent blog post many people in this area take it a bit lightly. We have all been through storms before, and many just don’t end up being that bad overall. We have endured storms, blackouts, terrorist attacks, etc. I guess sometimes things do happen as predicted. I, for one, also did not think it would end up this devastating. New Yorker’s are a funny bunch. Sure, we are bombarded by information sources all day warning us and updating on Hurricane Sandy – internet, social media, twitter, newspapers, tv, smoke signals, carrier pigeons, etc. Yet, many of us seem oblivious to heed the perils of this upcoming Frankenstorm.
Our mayor has been telling us to stock up on essential supplies, have a “Go Bag” ready, pay attention to the emergency weather updates, and basically just stay inside safe and dry. So, what did we do today? Like many of our fellow citizens we went out for brunch! Heck yeah! With big ole’ bloody marys! Burger with the works and eggs benedict. Mini muffins too! Sipping on my spicy cocktail while peering out the window at the dreary sky and whipping winds we just sat in bliss and enjoyed our boozy brunch. It’s what we do!
