Maoz Vegetarian NYC. When my body needs a healthy break!

l (2)

I finally popped my Maoz cherry! So many times I walked by this place down in Union Square NYC, saw all the rave reviews on Yelp, but did not drop in to try it out. It was my first time yesterday for lunch and discovered a terrific falafel sandwich and sweet potato fries! Hot damn this was good. My taste buds approved of this healthier option that I was putting into my mouth. Yummers!

Sure, it’s not too often that I write about the healthier eats in and around NYC but at times I need to give my overtaxed digestive system a break. A meatless lunch. No bacon. No nitrates. Nothing that moos or oinks. Consider it a sort of cleansing. My body thanks me. My intestinal tract thanks me. My butthole thanks me.

This place is tiny! I mean, it’s like walk-in closet small. One of those itty bitty places that packs a large flavor punch at really affordable prices. Basically, it’s a grab and go place, or you can sit at a small counter along the wall and enjoy your meal choice. The menu has an assortment of combo meal deals, sandwiches, salad bowls, and sides.

l (3)It was crowded when I got here but the counter staff had the line moving quickly. Most people were picking up their food to go. I was famished so I ordered the meal deal #1 – Maoz Falafel Sandwich with eggplant and hummus in a whole wheat pita. Comes with a drink and Belgian fries. Includes salad toppings too. I like that you can substitute sweet potato fries for .50 cents which I did. Total meal cost was about $10 and I am glad I picked this one. The falafel sandwich is delicious, filling, and actually a smart healthy choice. Added a little tahini sauce on top for more flavor. The pita was pretty soft too, and not bland as many can be. The sweet potato fries were perfectly made – thick, crispy, and not greasy at all. Yup, we have a winner here!

Healthy, vegetarian, and kosher too. It’s one of those fun and tasty healthier meals that will make you come back for more. I crave it already!

I love to say Falafel. It’s a fun word. I’m not a fan of egg plant but I’m glad you decided to give this place a try. It sounds like the kind of place I’d duck into for something healthy on the go.

  4. I know what you mean about having a meatless meal once in awhile. There are days when all I want is a big honkin’ plate of veggies. I would try Maoz out in a heartbeat if it were in my neighborhood. Looks yummy!

I love Falafel, I think the last time I had it I was in Israel. Unfortunately I haven’t seen it anywhere since moving to the midwest. Sweet potato fries are another favorite, at least I can find those wherever I go.
