It’s been quite a while since I have ventured out of NYC to come down to the scary southern hemisphere of the USA where my parents have retired to. Sure, it seems like a bad stereotype when it comes to those hitting a certain age and heading to warm sunny Florida to bask in their golden years, but my parents are living the dream! They live in a very nice gated 55 and over golf course community – but don’t golf. Go figure. It’s in central Florida in between Orlando and Tampa in an area known as “horse country”. It is an interesting, but kind of sleepy part of the state. Think “witness protection program” where they hide you away to die of suburban boredom. Heck, even John Travolta lives here and has been known to shop at Walmart late at night. I can picture the in-store announcements – “Travolta aisle 5, clean up, aisle 5, Vinnie Barbarino, aisle 5”! Traveling out of NYC for business or vacation is always an adventure. Sometimes an adventure in futility! Now, I am one of those easygoing travelers. Nothing bothers me too much whether traveling by air, rail, or car. We all know that things do happen to affect our travel schedules and best laid plans. Bad weather is inevitable. Flight delays will ruin your morning. Traffic jams will cause road rage. Ever want to tear the steering wheel out of your car and beat someone senseless with it? Even I get to my boiling point at times. I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s all about getting to my destination, and that the trip itself is a necessary evil, or impediment to getting there depending on your point of view. I am penning this post on my flight right now which actually took off right on time. A miracle! Continue reading Traveling out of NYC – futility and madness!
I was one of the many lamenting the long dreary winter not too long ago. Until after this past weekend on June 1 when the environment decided to smack us all in the face here in NYC with a wall of hot humid muggy air and humidity. Then the skies opened up and drenched us all. Ugh. Talk about total suckage! Now, I know there are many out there that love the hot weather and absolutely hate the winter season as it’s cold and unforgivably seems to last forever here in the Northeast. Personally, I enjoy the cold air and don’t think we have been hit too hard with many bad winters these past bunch of years. Most have been quite mild actually with few real snowfalls of any accumulation to make much of a difference. Yet, there are many that whine and complain all winter long. They relish the feel of 90 degree hot sticky days and all the sweatiness that accompanies it.
Not me! I don’t know about you but to me there is no enjoyment of having SWAMP ASS! Continue reading Hey NYC – Here comes the Swamp Ass!
Ok, what the hell is going on here? Enough of the cold raw weather already. ENOUGH! It’s like Spring has taken a nap, gone on vacation, or just turned off the switch and forgot to flip it back on. Spring is toying with us here in the Northeast. It temps us with a few nice days and Spring-like temperatures, then pulls a Fall-like day out of it’s ass and dumps a chilly day like today on us. I mean, what the heck are you doing Spring? Are you drunk or something? Why you hating on us? Where has the love gone? You’ve lost that lovin’ feeeeeeeling……. Continue reading Go home Spring you’re drunk!
