Running the Abbott Dash 5K as part of NYC Marathon Weekend!

First of all, I want to give a big shout out to all of my friends who ran in and completed the NYC Marathon last weekend. Quite an accomplishment. Well done!

Perhaps, this will be a future goal for myself as I progress with my running exploits. We will see!

I have been running 5K races since March of 2016 all around the NYC area, along with a few other cities I have jumped into while on vacation. At first, I had set out on a fitness goal to participate in maybe ten events. The running bug bit me and before I knew it by end of 2016 I was approaching 15 races. The crazy in me decided to keep going and now here I am looking to complete 30 races before end of 2018.

Running 5 Miles at Rock n Roll Brooklyn!

“I think I might have made a huge mistake.”

That was the first thing that crossed my mind as the alarm went off at the unholy hour of 4:30 am. Yeah, you read that correctly, 4:30am. On a Saturday. Not even a work day. What the hell was I thinking when I signed up at the last-minute to run in the Brooklyn Rock n Roll 5 Miler this past Friday after work. Who knows. A touch of momentary insanity?

Well, it was too late to back out at this point. I paid my entrance fee. I made the commitment. I was doomed. Continue reading Running 5 Miles at Rock n Roll Brooklyn!

POP! There Goes My Achy Breaky Hamstring!

It’s no secret that I truly enjoy a good 5K run. At this stage and era of my life it seems to fit me quite well. It’s a perfect run length for staying fit, burning calories, and offering the chance to stay mildly athletic while competing in occasional weekend races. I consistently keep my pace below a ten minute mile, and many times close to a 9:30 on average nowadays. That’s ok by me.

Over the course of the past year and a half I have completed 25 or so races now, along with many evenings or mornings of training runs of three to five miles. I have pushed it now and then to a 10K distance and a few 8-10 mile runs when mentally and physically I felt up for it. I have been extremely lucky in that I have incurred very few injuries other than some muscle soreness here and there. Nothing to impede my running. That is until recently when I pretty much blew out my hamstring at the Hard Grove 5K in New Jersey. Continue reading POP! There Goes My Achy Breaky Hamstring!

A Warm Summer Run at NYRR Brooklyn R-U-N 5K

Look at all these runners. Even more were in front of me!

New York Road Runners (NYRR) is a NYC based running organization that puts on many races throughout the year, and are the main organizers of the NYC Marathon. They produce running events of varying distances, and welcome runners of all types and experience. I ran the Brooklyn R-U-N 5K with this organization a few weeks ago.

They have a modern headquarters in midtown that made pre-race package pick up pretty easy. There is also a wall of history here where you can view NYC running events over the years, and they also offer running classes, tips, and expertise. You can join as a member and receive discounts on their races you sign up for. Continue reading A Warm Summer Run at NYRR Brooklyn R-U-N 5K
