This terrific NYC cocktail joint made me say – Attaboy!

Even this beer guzzler of a dude can enjoy a libation made from the finest ingredients now and then. The boozier the better I say. Living well is so choice.

Attaboy NYC! I could not believe that it had taken me this long to partake in the wonder of a liquid refreshment at this establishment. A good friend of mine asked me to accompany him on a bro-date and embellish in an evening of cocktails, conversation, carousing, and devious behavior. Who am I to decline an invite of such stupendous possibilities?

I have a soft spot for Speakeasies, as they take me back to a more civilized time of NYC history. When gentleman had manners, broke the law, and drank in secret during the idiotic Prohibition years, while keeping it all hush-hush. Honor among thieves for sure. Dress up a bit. Be a tad classy and leave the jeans, sneakers, sandals, and t-shirt for the local pub. Act like an adult and adhere to the dress code. It’s fun to play dress up once in a while. Especially when visiting a spot to partake in cocktails from another era.

Find the exit doors in Grand Central Station on the upper restaurant balcony area. It’s kind of hidden but really not that much of a secret. The Campbell Apartment is listed right above it. Make a left out of them and you’ll see the entrance right off the outside bar/patio area on the Vanderbilt Ave side.

Saunter up to the bar and order a Kentucky Ginger. Watch as the bartender mixes a perfect libation. While he is doing that look over the drink menu and marvel at the list of old-school cocktails that are offered here. Be aware that the room was originally from the 1920’s and has been restored to its former glory. It displays history.

Act all cool like James Bond and take it all in. Lean back against the bar and marvel at the amazing ceiling architecture. Look around at the well dressed crowd enjoying themselves while prohibition era classics and cool jazz play in the background. Limited seating and even on a late evening midweek the joint was jumping. Enjoy the view of those sitting on the balcony area engaging in a little voyeurism of their own. Old school ambiance oozes out of every pore here from the white-jacketed servers, to the black cocktail dressed hostesses adorned with pearl necklaces. Whoa! Packed at 10:30 on a Sunday night and only one tiny bathroom for all. Hold it in and get another cocktail! Such is the life at Employees Only. This NYC speakeasy has been on my “must visit” list for quite some time now. As a lover of these haunts I knew it was a matter of time before I found myself over here enjoying a libation or two. As these kinds of joints go it is a “high quality” venue and a wonderful example of what this type of bar should be. It’s really not that hard to find as you need to keep an eye open for the clues. Look for the Speakeasyish faux front with the neon psychic sign in the window. A few of us came here recently after our Yelp Holiday Hangover Hornblower booze cruise event for a nightcap. Be respectful to the doorman and show ID’s. He seems like a nice chap anyway. When passing through the entrance and parting the heavy drapes it’s quite an eclectic scene one is exposed to in here with a variety of patrons along the bar, standing along the walls, at tables, with all enjoying the ambiance. Dimly lit, great decor, and cool tunes playing it’s a scene of controlled raucous. I instantly knew I would love this place. No Bro-Fisting. Just great cocktails at Middle Branch in NYC.

o
Yes sir! I’ll gladly have another!

I’m always up for a quality made libation! Very nice addition to the Murray Hill area close to where I work here in NYC. Middle Branch is the sister speakeasy cocktail joint to downtown Little Branch. Lacking the bro-fisting that is normally seen in bars around these parts it’s a classier choice to score a liquid refreshment. Heck, “Home On The Range” is a terrific cocktail, and at $12 a bit cheaper here than at most speakeasies in NYC!

Been here a few times now for an after work cocktail. As it’s kind of hidden in what looks to be just another residential brownstone you can easily walk by, but it’s not all that hard to find. There is a plaque on the face of the building with the letters MB along with a wrought iron fence that surrounds it. As it’s a two story place the open windows with patrons seen drinking during warmer weather kind of gives it away. Continue reading No Bro-Fisting. Just great cocktails at Middle Branch in NYC.
