Once in a while the need to escape NYC beckons. Don’t get me wrong as I love my city but there is a lot more to see and do outside of the five boroughs. Plenty of towns up north just a train ride away of only an hour or two ride.

After spending a day trip up in Cold Spring NY wandering around, shopping, snacking, exploring, and sightseeing we checked this place out for a mid-afternoon lunch. It was called Hudson Hil’s.

Great service.
Delicious food.
Quality portions.
Bright country-style decor.
Breakfast served all day.

Boom. Continue reading Day Tripping to Hudson Hil’s in Cold Spring NY.

Where an egg Mek Muffin grows in Brooklyn

Mekelburg’s – a hidden gem. Photo credit – Yelp.

I am still daydreaming about the Mek Muffin at Mekelburg’s……..

I’m all about a good egg sandwich and killer beer list. Especially when I am ultra-hangry after running my butt off at an early morning 5K. So many folks told me about this hidden gem of a place in Brooklyn NYC.  A below ground specialty food market, deli, and cafe tucked away off a side street at the bottom of a nondescript apartment building. Normally, this part of town is a bit of a hike for me to get to, but as I happened to be fairly close by I decided to make the trek over and check it out. My stomach and taste buds were ecstatic that I did. Continue reading Where an egg Mek Muffin grows in Brooklyn

Le Viet Cafe – a tiny NYC spot for tasty Viet/Thai street eats.

Kimchi Fries. Do I need to say more? Look at that!

NYC seems to have an endless array of eateries of all styles and origins that take up residence here year in and year out. You can literally eat all around the world here in the five boroughs. Here is another new spot for good grub that has popped up within walking distance from my crib on the UES/Yorkville part of town. Hot damn! This makes my mouth and belly very happy!

Le Viet Cafe is a tiny resto that serves up some cheap and tasty Viet and Thai style street food. Even though it’s been open for a few months now where the old Buddha BBeeQ used to be we had not checked them out until a few weekends ago. Narrow and efficient looking the space can hold 12-15 people at most with a few tables along the one wall. Decor is minimalist but the service is very friendly. Menu is so very affordable and the portions are just about right for the price. Lunch specials during the week are also offered. I definitely need to go back now and try out some of the soups, sandwiches, fried rice dishes, and assorted appetizers. Yeah, you can say I enjoyed my first meal at Le Viet. Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar – shove a wiener in yo’ mouth!

brat
So many delicious weiners to choose from!

Dude! Now I know were to bite into a tasty wiener in Yorkville!

Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar is a terrific new little brat and sausage bar opened by Schaller & Weber – old school purveyors of scrumptious German deli meats and charcuterie! It’s their version of German street food with a NYC cool twist.

There is nothing else like this tiny spot on the Upper East Side of NYC. Open until 11pm on most nights. Grab and go, or chow down on your wiener in the small dining room area that is set up with a modern beer hall feel to it. Walk up to the sidewalk storefront window and gaze upon the selection of amazing meats to choose from. Bratwurst, Knackwurst, Weisswurst, Bacon Cheddar Brat, Kielbasa, Beef Wieners  – OH MY!!!!

So much meat to shove in my face! It’s like a gangbang party in my mouth and I want them all in me!

( Wait – did I just say that out loud? ) Continue reading Schaller’s Stube Sausage Bar – shove a wiener in yo’ mouth!
