Chewie, I’m Home! The Rocka Rolla Mother Ship in Brooklyn.

Rock and Roll, baby!

Hard rock. Heavy metal. Brews served in humongous chilled goblet glasses. Old school beer memorabilia, classic rock star photos, shuffleboard, and 70’s style wooden paneling on the walls. Classic cheesecake posters of Farrah Fawcett and Cheryl Tiegs in the game room. This is the world you discover at Rocka Rolla based in Brooklyn, NYC.

It’s like a demented version of a bar if the Wayne’s World dudes decided to open a bar in their basement with partners Beavis and Butthead! Continue reading Chewie, I’m Home! The Rocka Rolla Mother Ship in Brooklyn.

Red Hook Bait & Tackle – a Hurricane Sandy Survivor

I love a good dive bar with all kinds of kitschy stuff on the walls!

This is one of those spots that you find now and then in the NYC area which makes you wish was closer to your apartment, but also glad that it’s far enough away from you. The temptation to lure me into here on a daily basis would be tough to resist. My liver would hate me, but man, would I be a happy camper here.

Red Hook Bait & Tackle is one of those places. It’s one of those bars that every New Yorker who appreciates a good dive should trek out to at least once. Plus, this bar was devastated by Hurricane Sandy along with many other businesses in the Red Hook area, so that makes it even more of a terrific pilgrimage to visit and support them. It’s a testament to the owners resolve, and the community who helped them get back on their feet. Continue reading Red Hook Bait & Tackle – a Hurricane Sandy Survivor

Oddballs and Oddities at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in NYC

o
Oh, the bromance! Can you feel the love?

Yes, I’ll admit I am a cheeseball at heart. Even as a dyed in the wool New Yorker I’m not all that sophisticated, and certainly not above having fun in absurdly touristy type places such as Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in NYC.

I love anything on the “weird”, “macabre”, and “strange” side, so having the luck to receive complimentary tickets not too long ago was a terrific opportunity to check out this oddities museum in Times Square. Yes, I know it is “tourist central” and I felt dirty just being in this part of town, but we braved it for this and had a decent little time. Go ahead and shoot me. We all act like tourists now and then on the down-low.

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. Had no problem getting our tickets at the front counter and went inside. There are so many things to see, read about, touch, and learn that are housed in here. Just walking into the entrance you are greeted by artifacts and statues from movies, and other objects and curiosities. Continue reading Oddballs and Oddities at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in NYC

Buca di Beppo for fun Italian with the Pope in AC!

l (6)

Wow – the reviews of this place vary wildly from what I have read on different sites. From satisfied patrons to outright hatred. All I can say is that when my merry group of diners and myself ate here recently we had a terrific time with good service and decent food. That’s all you can ask for when eating at a chain resto like Buca di Beppo in Bally’s casino.

Don’t go in thinking it will be a Michelin star rated joint, and just know that it is what it is – a chain Italian spot. Lower expectations a bit and enjoy a meal in a lighthearted amusing atmosphere. Sucks for those that can’t deal with that and had a bad experience at this location. All I can say is that we all had a great time and walked out stuffed and mainly satisfied on our last jaunt to Atlantic City, NJ.

As a bunch of us were here recently during the Yelp AC Winter Getaway weekend event I decided to reserve a table for twelve since it would also be my BDay weekend, and a good time to relax with a group of friends over a fun dinner and wine.  It was during the AC restaurant week promotion, so we ate at RW prices which were a nifty deal at $33.15 a person. More than enough on the menu to choose from, and the portions were actually quite large and filling. Decent enough wine list with different price points too.
