I really think the “GODS of FATTYLAND” are conspiring against me by constantly inventing new ways to keep me ingesting calories of delicious goodness closer and closer to where I live on the Upper East Side.
Now along comes Le Churro. C’mon, you know I can’t resist hot, crispy, sweet, sugary, crunchy churros! With dipping sauces too? This is just not fair! NOT FAIR!
This place is tiny and has that “uptown mommy” coffee klatch vibe to it. Bright, colorful, and cheery. Only a few small tables and chairs with some counter seating by the front window. Assortment of chocolates and candies to purchase on shelves along the wall. The menu offers coffee, iced drinks, juices, oatmeal, hot cider, yogurt parfaits, and smoothies too. Also has a bunch of tempting goodies on the register counter.
Oh, 5 Napkin Burger why have I been avoiding you for so long?
You keep calling me. You leave me little notes of affection. You try to lure me in with your sexy style. You hide behind corners when I turn around like some deranged stalker. You slip roofies into my beer and try to get me back to your place.
It finally happened. Your advances worked and I gave in. I tasted your desires and actually liked it.
Original 5 Napkin Burger – 10oz. custom ground beef, caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, rosemary aioli, soft white roll. Huge delicious burger! Cooked to perfection with a pinkness in the middle, and the gruyere cheese with rosemary aioli was an amazingly workable combination that just added to the ridiculously tastiness of it all. All the juicy goodness was soaked up by a large fluffy hamburger bun. Also, I was able to substitute sweet potato fries in place of regular fries. These too were just killer, with a nice light salty coating on them. Continue reading 5 Napkin Burger NYC. Mmmm….juicy, meaty, burger goodness.→
Just an amazing British gastropub on the Upper East Side that breaks all barriers in the land of annoying frat boy sports bars. There are only a few times in life when one walks into a new place and experiences sheer awesomeness. When that happens you just feel all
The bar area is narrow, dimly lit, and sexy. Only two small flat screens above the bar. Cool techno / dance type music playing in the background, but not too loud. Dark wood decor with a hint manliness and testosterone but inviting to both men and women. Comfy couch area near back of bar to lounge upon. Large back room dining area separated from the bar by a cool sun room dining area with a long communal table in it – great for a group gathering. The decor is outstanding back there and you feel as if you are dining in someone’s home in the UK. Comfortable and inviting and you would never know from looking at it from the outside. It’s about time that the far Upper East Side where East Harlem meets starts getting spots like this that you would normally find only downtown. Earl’s Beer & Cheese is located in a pretty vacant stretch along Park Ave and 97th where the train overpass meets the tunnel underground. Not much of a view but who cares when all you need to look at are your terrific beers and wonderful cheese plates.
As others have mentioned the place is insanely tiny. Personally, that does not bother me as long as I can grab a seat or spot to enjoy my brew. For others I can see where they would become claustrophobic quickly. When we arrived here around 6PM on Saturday there were only around eight people there, but by 7PM I had counted around 25 and it was jammed packed. This place has become popular very quickly in this neck of the woods, and for good reason.
