We have now entered the time of the year that can only be considered the dead zone between seasons of gloom and unabashed joy. Yes, that time of the year on the calendar that seems to drag on endlessly between New Year’s and Spring weather sometime in late April or May. The days start off dark heading to work, and end in the dark on the way home from work. The trees are bare of leaves. The air is cold. The weather unpredictable with days of dryness giving way to snow, sleet, and rain. Kind of dreary out. Very few holidays to break up the monotony save for President’s Day and Martin Luther King day if your company is nice enough to give them off. It’s a time when people desperately try to adhere to their resolutions to eat better, be a bit healthier, and stick to a fitness program.
Yes, we have now entered….The Noob Zone.

Life in NYC is always a bit different the day after New Years. It’s always a “bit off” to begin with but maybe that’s just me. After a week’s vacation for the holiday season I was jonesing to head back to work and get back on a normal routine. Even so, it feels like I am still groggy today, and I can tell that most New Yorkers look and feel the same way. People are moving a bit slower on Jan 2nd . Mr Sandman put some extra sleep crustiness in our eyes and we are trying to get back into the swing of things. For many of us after a week off or long holiday weekend we are still recovering from the excessive partying, bad eating, and extra drinking we indulged in. We know better but still ruin ourselves every year!

Here we go! I decided to not wait until after New Year’s to get back in the gym. After taking a much needed break these past few weeks to let my body recuperate a bit and heal up some nagging injuries I felt it was time to get back in gear. Oh yes, I also took off on my diet too and indulged in plenty of bad eating and drinking. Hey, it’s holiday season and I am not one to deprive myself of all the good food and booze being put in front of me! Ho-Ho-Ho!

I am kind of a lucky man. I am surrounded by terrific cooks and friends that can whip up delicious tasting meals and delicacies with a snap of their fingers. It’s both a blessing and a curse I tell you. On one hand, you just know to expect when we have a pot luck or get together somewhere. The food is amazing and quite tasty. Drool worthy at times. On the other hand, it makes me feel like the kind of person that can barely make a bowl of Cheerios. Monique is a ridiculous cook and can pretty much open up her own bistro if she wanted. Kristy is a pastry and dessert maven. Since she is diabetic she also bakes up some great low-sugar treats. Chef Ben is, well, he’s a trained chef and can make anything taste awesome. It’s a ridiculously talented group. We never have to worry about going hungry around these food magicians.
