Eating grumpy! My NYC dining rants & ravings.

l

We who live here in New York love to go out to eat. It’s one of our pastimes that we all adhere to. Brunch has become a rite of passage. We mostly know that we can save a boat full of cash by cooking at home with more regularity, but then that means having to actually go out grocery shopping, preparing and cooking the actual meals, and then having to clean up the mess we make. It just seems easier to head out to one of the bazillion eateries and cafes that inhabit our fair city to enjoy a meal served to us. With the diverse amount of food stuffs offered here in our melting pot we have a cultural smorgasbord to choose from. No muss, no fuss.

Then again, along with the pleasantries of dining out there are the pitfalls that go along with it. Fellow obnoxious diners alongside you can easily ruin a nice meal. Restaurants can drive us batty with their rules and regulations. Clueless wait staff makes one want to scream. There are just so many to choose from! I give to you my fellow frustrated diners a list of rants & ravings based on my observations and experiences over my many years of dining out.

Harlem NYC – fun & history a subway ride away.

Harlem

One of the great things about living in NYC are all the different neighborhoods one can explore. On any day all it takes is a quick subway ride to hit up any part of the city. Brooklyn (fuggetaboutit!), da Bronx, Queens, every part of Manhattan up down and all around, and even Jersey is easy to get to by the PATH train from NYC. Easy guy breakfast on a rainy couch potato day.

Today was one of those rainy Sundays that make you feel like lying around all day in your sweats. Sometimes you welcome Sundays like this in New York. Overcast. Wet. Raw outside. We are always in a rush to go out and do things that days like today are a welcome reprieve. It just feels good to decompress and couch surf for a day. Watch some TV. Get some laundry done. Put on a pot of coffee and kick back. Couch potato time. One of the things I like to do on a day like today is cook a good tasty breakfast. I’m no chef, but I know enough to get around in my little NYC micro kitchen. Continue reading Easy guy breakfast on a rainy couch potato day.

I ain’t no chef. Easy guy cooking.

I am kind of a lucky man. I am surrounded by terrific cooks and friends that can whip up delicious tasting meals and delicacies with a snap of their fingers. It’s both a blessing and a curse I tell you. On one hand, you just know to expect when we have a pot luck or get together somewhere. The food is amazing and quite tasty. Drool worthy at times. On the other hand, it makes me feel like the kind of person that can barely make a bowl of Cheerios. Monique is a ridiculous cook and can pretty much open up her own bistro if she wanted. Kristy is a pastry and dessert maven. Since she is diabetic she also bakes up some great low-sugar treats. Chef Ben is, well, he’s a trained chef and can make anything taste awesome. It’s a ridiculously talented group. We never have to worry about going hungry around these food magicians.
