Once in a while the need to escape NYC beckons. Don’t get me wrong as I love my city but there is a lot more to see and do outside of the five boroughs. Plenty of towns up north just a train ride away of only an hour or two ride.
After spending a day trip up in Cold Spring NY wandering around, shopping, snacking, exploring, and sightseeing we checked this place out for a mid-afternoon lunch. It was called Hudson Hil’s.
Bright country-style decor.
Breakfast served all day.
What’s not to love about this quaint charming little village just minutes away from NYC?
If looking for a quick day trip Cold Spring NY is about and hour and twenty-minute ride on the Metro North out of Grand Central station. More than enough running times on the schedule to head out early and get home later in the evening. Makes for a perfect easy getaway to explore this wonderful little town.
Quick walk from the train station so no cars are needed. Information desk is right there at the start of Main Street to pick up a map, and public bathrooms too.
Idyllic setting right on the water. Wonderful views all around and terrific when the leaves are changing. Great location for taking some beautiful pics along the Hudson River.
Yes, every once in a while we do escape the concrete jungle of NYC and venture out to the suburbs to visit family. Many times they prepare us a wonderful home cooked meal, or do a meatfeast BBQ on the back patio, and then sometimes when the weather gods have given us a great day we decide to head out and dine al fresco by waterside. Sure, I still think the burbs are a Stepford Wives kind of scary place, but I have to admit it is kind of a picturesque scene to have some cocktails and seafood on a deck overlooking sea vessels while the sun settles over the horizon. Such is the case when out on Long Island as we decided to eat outside recently at a spot called The Oar Steak & Seafood Grill over in Patchogue.
The smell of freshly made waffles and sweetness in the air is intoxicating as you walk in the front door. You get in line and anxiously wait your turn to view the multitude of inventive flavors. Diet? What diet you think. I ain’t on no diet today!
There are so many great flavors to choose from here at Main Street Sweets! I counted over thirty, and all are homemade with natural ingredients. You almost try to convince yourself that you are eating healthy! I could tell this is a well liked local place by the lines I constantly saw here over the weekend we spent up in Tarrytown, NY. Yes, I have to admit that I ended up on that line twice. Bad, bad, bad boy!
I love that they offer a sampler cup which is an ingenious way to try out five different flavors of mini scoops. It’s like a pu-pu platter of sugary goodness! Cheap too at only $3.25 and totally worth it as this cup offers just enough to satisfy the ice cream cravings. Oh, who am I kidding, as I could have eaten three of these at a sitting! Still, it was crazy good. Continue reading Ice Cream Joy at Main Street Sweets, Tarrytown NY→
