Considering I just worked out at the gym a block away, and then walked into this place to buy some delicious pastries I can pretty much say that workout was a waste. But these treats were so damn good! Waistline be damned!
The pastry dominatrix had me in her clutches. The gluttonous Adonis in me approves!
Dominique Ansel Kitchen in NYC has become famous for its mouth watering pastries, and with worthy acclaim. As for the actual facility it’s kind of small, with one community table to sit at, and a funky stair case pyramid with stadium-like seating that rise to the ceiling. Kind of a cool spot to drop in on and enjoy a tasty pastry, cup of cappuccino, or some nice hot soup and a croissant on a cold wintry NYC day. Accidentally found this place while out for a run. Needless to say I took an ice cream and candy break! What a terrific little store. Oh well – there went my run! How could I resist not taking a break to peruse the shelves at The Sweet Shop in my hood of the Upper East Side in NYC when all this candy goodness was beckoning me? It’s like I had the good and bad angels sitting on my shoulders, and the bad angel whispered evil thoughts and sweet nothings into my ear. Guess which one won out? The good angel was kicked to the curb as I headed inside this tiny pocket of candy wonderland.
I was greeted with shelves lined along each wall showcasing all kinds of candies from the old-timey style to the newest sugary treats on the market. Family owned and run they are very friendly and knowledgeable. Even handed me some samples to try just for walking in and saying hello. Now that’s a welcoming perk. Get me all wired up on candy why don’t you even before I buy anything? I wasn’t refusing! My evil angel was smirking in delight. Continue reading Get your sweet tooth at The Sweet Shop in NYC!→
Really, wasn’t it Halloween just less than a week ago? I literally still have the taste of this holiday in my mouth as there are plastic buckets full of candy and chocolates strewn about the office I work in and I just can’t keep my hands out of them. Chocolate drool down my chin. This time of year really tests my resolve which is disappearing as the days go on. First Halloween, then Thanksgiving, which then leads to Christmas and New Years. There are only 47 days until Christmas! Only 7 weeks. Just 7 weekends to get all that horrendous shopping done. Hold on now, let’s backtrack a bit. Halloween just ended. What gets me all riled up is that we are already getting bombarded with holiday commercials and Christmas merchandise in the stores. What the eff??? Really, can we just enjoy each holiday first before having the next one shoved down our throats and ripped through our buttholes? Why am I seeing ads for toys and gifts at the major retailers on October 28th? Why does my local Duane Reade already have boxes of Christmas wrap in the windows on November 5th? This lunacy needs to end right now! What’s next? July 4th sales the day after New Years? How about Christmas ads for 2015 the day after Easter? Makes me want to go all Bigfoot on these places and start throwing poop everywhere. Continue reading Really? Christmas, the Flu, NYC Road Rage. What is going on?→
Holy sugar bomb Batman! Doughnuts! What more can I say that has not been said about Doughnut Plant? They make ridiculously delicious donuts. I was at this newer location located at the Hotel Chelsea in NYC not too long ago. Pretty much right after my serious Summer training and eating light ended, so yeah, I splurged in a big way with no guilt!
This one is definitely set up more like a cafe over their other location on the Lower East Side. Much more space with tables and chairs. Some artwork on the walls with lots of color and giant doughnut pillows adorning them. More of a trendy looking spot as I guess they are catering to the Chelsea Hotel clientele a bit. Must have been working as it was pretty crowded when I was there. Why not? It’s doughnuts! Sweet sugar bombs of perfection! Continue reading Sweet sugar bombs of perfection! Doughnut Plant NYC!→
