The Counter NYC – create your own burger feast!

o
Doing it my way with a veggie burger and salad combo. Pineapple for the win!

Yeah, yeah, I know. Here’s a guy who has quit eating red meats, steak, pork, bacon (my one regret), and burgers penning an opinion on a burger joint. In the godforsaken land known as NYC’s Disneyfied Times Square. How can he be so brazen? Really dude? Really bro?

Hey, don’t judge. I still like what I like and have an opinion. I am a New Yorker, so you know we all have one. Don’t know about all those giving this little joint sub par reviews on internet sites, and don’t really care, as I have to say during my visit here just recently in the tourist hell-hole known as “The Crossroads of the World” I kind of enjoyed my meal at The Counter in NYC.

Quick, courteous, and friendly service.

Clean and nicely air-conditioned. (Always a plus with me as I hate eating in swamp ass conditions.)

Small dining area with plenty of seating crammed in, and some counter spots by the tiny bar, but do-able overall. The high ceilings, large windows, and modern decor make it a chill looking spot and offer some cool views of neon signs at night. Makes it feel like a larger space than it is. Plus, weirdo people watching is a guilty pleasure.  Continue reading The Counter NYC – create your own burger feast!

Come hang with Burt Reynolds at Joe’s Bar NYC!

Bowl o’ fries done right!

Hot dang, even though I have been here a few times now I’m finally writing a review for Joe’s Bar. What the heck is wrong with me? This is one of the best spots on the Upper West Side of NYC to chill out at! Just let me extrapolate on their attributes hopefully without sounding like a love crazed fangirl.

Tasty burgers. Even though I am no longer eating red meat I can still rave about the juicy goodness of their cheeseburgers here. Oh, and the bowl of fries is damn skippy too!

Great music – old school 70’s rock & roll, hip hop, and rap classics playing at any time. Man, it makes one realize how bad today’s music really is. Continue reading Come hang with Burt Reynolds at Joe’s Bar NYC!

Experience the manliness that is Umami Burger NYC

ooo

I just devoured the juicy awesomeness that is the Manly Burger. I am all that is Man. And then some!

It’s kind of surreal that just a few weeks ago I dined at Umami Burger here in NYC and enjoyed every bite of this fatty, meaty, cheesy, caloriffic-laden burgery goodness. I have been sitting on this review since then and over that time I had an epiphany of sorts. I actually have decided to stop eating meat. What??? Yeah, I know, right? Seafood and healthier nutrient dense options are on the agenda now. I don’t know if I would really class myself as a Pescatarian just yet as I still love a good steak. Yet, lately I just started to get sick of eating fatty greasy meat products and yearned for a change. Especially since I am now ramping up my workouts to get in shape for summer. Let’s just see how this grand experiment all works out for me over the next three or four months.

In the meantime, let us chat about this manliness that I wrapped my lips around, shall we? Continue reading Experience the manliness that is Umami Burger NYC

Take a break from gambling at Dan Rooney’s Cafe & Bar

345Every once in a while we like to do a little gambling, but don’t want to schlep down three hours to Atlantic City. Closer to NYC is Empire City casino, which is really a racino, and while nowhere near as good as AC as the slots are tight it does offer a quick alternative to satiate a gambling crave.

They have done some renovations to the joint, and added in a few new spots to feast at after making a deposit into the one-armed video machine bandits. One such place to have a meal and brew at is Dan Rooney’s Cafe & Bar. During our last trip to the casino we decided to drown our losing sorrows in a pint of beer and a hot meal at this Irish sports pub.

Our verdict? Decent food, beer, and sports bar but overall service is slow and inattentive.

Rotisserie chicken entrée was a solid choice. Sides are extra but the carrots were a good option as they are seasoned great, and onion rings were large and battered well but not greasy at all. Also, we ordered a whole chicken which was more than enough for two people. I felt the prices were fair and the food was actually pretty decent, and a little better than I expected for a sports bar in a casino.
