Bondurants – beer, cocktails & whiskey love in my NYC hood!

Oh Yorkville, you are making me even love you more. Bondurants is an awesome new bar addition in the area! Super craft beer selection that rotates weekly. Superlative whiskey list. Some terrific house cocktails to choose from along with a small eclectic food list. Inviting rustic decor with cool rock music playing. A more adult mixed crowd that flies in the face of the frat boy clientele in the area. How did this wonderful place happen to show up here and not in Brooklyn or the Lower East Side?

Oh, that’s right! Because the UES/Yorkville part of town is starting to explode with great bars and restaurants all over! Once the 2nd Ave subway is finished this will become the hot spot of town to eat and drink at even more so. For those of us who live up here we know this is the “undiscovered country” with many gems that those who refuse to venture above 14th street even know about. That’s ok, because we like it that way. I don’t even have to leave my hood anymore to have a great beer, quality cocktail, or tasty meal!

Yorkville: The final frontier. To explore strange new bars, to seek out new restaurants and new gathering spots, to boldly go where no man has partied before! (as narrated by William Shatner)

The whiskey list here is pure quality with so many to choose from. From Makers 46 to Elijah Craig to Larceny to Rough Rider and more. Impressive! I can walk in at any time and enjoy a creamy Nitro Stout brew or sample any of the beers on their board until I find one I like. Terrific bartenders here who are friendly and will offer top notch selections when you are on the fence about what you want to drink.

Hungry? Try the Frickles or Roasted Almonds to nosh on. Their seasoned IPA Fries are addicting! They are perfect to go along with a beer or cocktail. Oh, the cocktails are fine! The Maggie Valley and Take It Easy Baby will surely cure what ails ya.

Large octagon shaped bar centers the room with some tables and window seating around it. Spacious and can get a bit crowded as the locals have taken to this spot, but always a space to hang your hat. Pure inviting ambiance that makes me want to call this my new neighborhood bar home. This ain’t your grandparent’s Upper East Side anymore. Love it!

      1. There was a time I would have found that disturbing, but now I live in a city that deep-frys everything from Mars Bars to haggis to blood pudding. I think Glasgow’s motto is “If God didn’t want it deep-fried, He shouldn’t have given us vegetable oil.”

  1. We have a Yorkville in Toronto too with trendy restaurants and shops. You seem to find all the great spots, Phil ~ are you putting together and ebook listing them all? You should! Those fries look like the real deal … add the craft beer to that? YUM!

  2. SHUT THE FRONT DOOR on those fries!!!!!!! Yes, I’m one of those gals who says no to the fries but eats her husband’s when he orders them! 🙂

Regarding the whiskey, not so much. My sister and I were guests at a dinner once where the host had a collection of Whiskeys and decided to give us a Whiskey Tasting Lesson. OMG. It was like drinking gasoline. We had to smile and pretend we loved it. Regardless, this place sounds great! ps. do they let you bring the horse in?

    1. Hey Brickhouse!

Then you would probably inhale that whole bowl! These are damn good!

Go for the beer and cocktails here. Those you would probably enjoy!

I have to park my horse outside. He drinks too much and I’m trying to dry him out.

    1. Hey Melanie!

Thanks for dropping by and commenting!

This is a great bar and so many like these with terrific food, beer, and cocktails are opening up in the part of NYC I live in. It is definitely spoiling living here!

  3. Stop telling everyone how awesome Yorkville is!!! I’m adding this one to the date night list, too. You keep giving me such good ideas for our ‘hood 🙂

    1. Hey Jenny!

I actually had an UES/Yorkville cocktail crawl yesterday and we hit up some great new spots like Bondurants, Five Mile Stone, DTUT, The Gilroy, Penrose, and Vinus & Marc. All terrific new places in our hood for great drinks!

  4. Once again, sounds like my kind of place. Love bars with large beer selections.

    And now, I’m hungry.

  5. Looks like a nice place. Must admit that I use to get some serious granny-vibes when in the UES area, but you’ve really been blogging about a lot of places up there that look really cool:)

    1. Hey Mitzie!

This is not your grandparents UES anymore! Check out bars and restos like Bondurants, The Penrose, The Gilroy, DTUT, Burger Bistro, Bareburger,Vinus & Marc, Five Mile Stone, UVA, JBird, Jones Wood Foundry, The Writing Room and so many more along 2nd and 1st Ave on the UES/Yorkville. These are better spots than many places downtown. It’s becoming the new beer and craft cocktail destination!

  6. Another great place to hang in NYC! Okay, now I’m well overdue for a visit. So now that’s the Zombie Hut and Bondurants. I’ll have my whole itinerary all figured out! Thanks for yet another great NYC idea! Keep’em coming!

    1. Hey Irving!

Just be careful, as my blog will add a lot of calories to your diet! Be prepared to buy some bigger pants when here in NYC and following my eating and drinking tips!

  7. Hi Phil, I had a peek at their website and it looks pretty alright. I like new discoveries especially in big cities such as New York and Berlin where if you see a place this year, it doesn’t mean that you’re gonna see it next year LOL! And, we’re all lazy so a new outfit had better be good!

I’m not a fan of the dark beers but in the right atmosphere I’d take a bourbon or a cocktail. In fact, I’d take them both!

    1. Hey Victoria!

This place is solid! Great beer, whiskey, and bar bites! Plenty of beer styles to choose from and great cocktails! I hope they stick around for a long time!

  8. Hi, There is no difference between Beer and whiskey i always include it in one column. honestly, I love pairing beer with whiskey (I’ve been doing it for years). All you really need to keep in mind is that it’s pretty hard to give yourself alcohol poisoning with beer, but it’s pretty easy to do with liquor.
