Bah Humbug! I hate these %^$@*&^%@$ Holiday Songs!

dashing-through-the-no-grumpy-cat-meme

It’s that time of year again when we get bombarded with holiday music. Here in NYC they started playing it in my local deli that I go to for lunch right after Halloween! It’s gets ridiculous when Christmas is shoved down our throats so early, and seems to get worse and worse every year. Now don’t get me wrong as I do enjoy the holiday season. It just feels way too rushed. Before we know it we will hear Christmas songs right after the 4th of July! I don’t want to sound all “bah humbug” but there are a few that I just can’t stand. Really, some of these make me want to engulf myself in flames and jump off a skyscraper.

Here are my most hated Christmas and holiday songs in no particular wretched order.

Dominick the Donkey –

Oh, how I effing hate this song. Really, what the heck is this all about? I’m half Italian and I still find this song blazingly annoying. What does a donkey have to do with Christmas? Maybe because it’s an ass and many people shopping in the crowded stores this time of year act like one.

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer –

If I never hear this song again it would be a blessing. It is just so monotonous and aggravating to listen to. It’s like I’m being tortured by listening to the redneck national holiday anthem. It gets unbearable after a while and the song seems to go on forever! Can someone run over anyone who plays this infuriating song, and then back up on them a few times for good measure?

Christmas Wrapping

Yeah, Yeah. Beat me for this one. I know a lot of people think this song is cool and fun but after hearing it so often I want to cover my head in Christmas wrap and hit it with a sledgehammer whenever it comes on. Another one I just can’t stand to listen to and makes me want to slam my head against a concrete wall.

Barking Dogs/Jingle Bells –

I have heard this stupid version of Jingle Bells since I was a kid. I swear I could hear it in my sleep. I love dogs and had one growing up but this is too much to digest. An assault on my ears. I just want it to stop!

A Wonderful Christmastime –

Nothing against Sir Paul McCartney but this has to be one of the most horrible Christmas songs ever created. It’s one of those holiday songs that gets put on eternal loop in every suburban mall across the land during this time of year. It’s almost like numbing mind control as I feel my brain turning to mush and my head about to explode after listening to it for the first minute or so. Makes me want to run out of the store screaming bloody murder.

The Christmas Song (Don’t Be Late) –

Maybe I just don’t get it, or I just don’t want to, but there is nothing endearing about listening to the Chipmunks sing anything. Especially Christmas songs. It’s like listening to fingernails scratching along a blackboard. My ears start bleeding when forced to listen to this, and yes, I refuse to watch the movies too.

Well, there you have it. I am sure there are a bunch more that I did not list here. What other hated Christmas and holiday season songs can be added to this list? I’m sure I’m not the only one with some “bah humbug” music selections out there.

  1. Little Drummer boy is creepy and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is the national anthem for date rape. Also Santa Baby gives me douche chills, I want to tell the girl to get a job and buy her own shit.
Maybe I’m turning into a binch (bitch/grinch) or mayhaps I’m sick of these same songs after hearing them for months now.

  2. Oh the grandma got run over by a reindeer one makes my skin crawl and my kids love it! the dogs barking jingle bells sucks too! Yes, the constant stream of X-mas music for a solid 6 weeks can get tedious for even the most enthusiastic of Christians! Great post! my favorite is the meme at the beginning with the cat…lol

  3. I have to admit that you have a few there that I’ve never heard before and honestly could have gone a lifetime without hearing. And if I’m going to be totally honest, I loved “Grandma got run over by a reindeer” the first time I heard it. . . but only the first time. Like with most songs that people like, they played it till I could puke!

  4. ‘Santa Baby’ and ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ (yeah sure… make the cheap skate swing for a gift.) I would not like to hear either of these songs again, like forever.

I do however, love Dominick the Donkey, there is a donkey in the nativity (I think he may have been traded in the movie ‘Love Actually’ for a Lobster.) I also love I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, my Grandson loves both of these, and then, oh no, don’t screammmmm… The Chipmunks. Merry Christmas Phil!

  5. Ha, ha ha ha. It drives me crazy when I’m shopping at Asda only to be bombarded for an hour with all those Christmas tunes. I don’t mind if they played one or two every now and again but to have it constantly being played is a nightmare to the ears especially when I don’t even celebrate it.
Now I just plug in my own headphones on loud and walk the isles in comfort. Only problem is I can’t hear anyone talking to me, maybe that’s a good thing, don’t wanna be disturbed whilst picking my food 🙂

  6. Several of those songs are on my change the station list but one of the ones I think is super cute and like to annoy others with is “I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas”. One of my friends hates that songs so I make sure to play it at least once during the holiday season for her… aren’t I a good friend?

  7. The real problem for me is that these songs get stuck in my head without me even realizing it. The next thing I know, I’m singing “I saw Mommy bleeping Santa Claus” in the shower, and I don’t even realize it! The good news is, I do spice up the lyrics a bit…

  8. I scrolled first to see if my despised one was on the list. I totally on agree with you on all of yours. But really is there one to like? Yeah yeah there is. I actually like the Charlie Brown christmas music album by Vince Guaraldi and I never hear it in stores. Maybe then I wouldn’t like it. But I tell you I hate Baby it’s cold outside. I love it in the movie Elf because the scene cracks me up. But otherwise – why is there 50 thousand versions of it and why did a lady behind me a Duncan donuts need to sing all the all the parts a capella? Kinda freaked me out.

  9. Thankfully most of those don’t make across here to the UK. Although that Grandma and a reindeer song is one I hear quite often when I’m in North America. Novel at first but I can understand why it drives you nuts now.

Sadly in the UK they start promoting Christmas as soon as the Back to school signs are removed in late August 🙁

I try to avoid it all until an appropriate time. That time is probably today, this is the first time that I’ve put the MTV Xmas channel on (dedicated to Christmas songs). My favourites are “Stop the Cavalry” and “Walking in a winter wonderland”.

  10. Well this year for Christmas at work we have a new a manager and he’s a WAY better on the Christmas music selection then my last manager. My last manager had the Mariah Carey Christmas album on REPEAT FOR THE WHOLE TIME THE FUCKING STORE WAS OPEN! LOL…I mean I don’t have anything against the woman but for fuck sakes a whole month of the same CD that is not that great had me wanting to tear my hair out. As for Christmas starting early, I think We’re going to say, “happy New Year!” and hear Christmas music on the 2nd…just Christmas all year long. lol
